The Top 3 Mistakes Men Make When Starting a Skin Care Routine

3 biggest men's skin care mistakes

1. Buying men’s skin care products not meant for their skin type

You wouldn’t pour any old oil into your car before checking the owner’s manual, so why would you use any old skin care product on your face? In order to take care of your skin as well as possible, you need to know your skin type so you can purchase products made specifically for it. Read the following descriptions to discover your skin type so you can start getting better results with your routine.

Normal: Your skin stays pretty oil free most of the day and doesn’t get irritated or dry easily. Acne is not really an issue.

Oily Skin: Your skin has a natural shininess to it, and often has build up or acne.

Dry/Sensitive Skin: Your skin gets easily irritated and often feels dry or tight.

Combination:  Imagine your face has a “T” on it. The horizontal bar of the T goes across your forehead, while the vertical bar runs down to the tip of your nose. This is called the T zone, and guys who have combo type skin have an oily T zone, but have dry or sensitive skin on the rest of their face, primarily the cheeks.

Aging Skin: Aging skin can be categorized as looking worn out, wrinkled and having age spots. In other words, you have spent many years not taking care of your skin.

2. Not going beyond men’s face wash and men’s face lotion

A solid men’s skin care routine consists of the staples: face wash for men and face moisturizer for men. While sticking to the basics is fine, if you really want to get the most out of your skin care investment, use an anti aging cream for men, as well as an eye cream for men.

Anti Aging Cream for Men:  A men’s anti aging cream can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and remove skin discoloration. The best anti aging cream for men contains powerful natural ingredients that help boast collagen production and restore skin cell moisture such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and MSM. A men’s anti aging cream should traditionally be used at night before you go to bed (after you’ve washed your face) to work with the restorative process that occurs while you sleep.

Eye Cream for Men: A men’s eye cream is one of the products you probably don’t use, but definitely should be. While you sleep, your head fills up with fluid and blood. This build up causes bags under your eyes and dark circles around them. The best men’s under eye cream will contain caffeine, which helps circulate the blood and fluid back down into the body reducing the puffiness and circles.

3. Not incorporating skin care into their shave routine

The most important step of shaving comes even before you shave. It involves taking care of the skin before you shave so that your skin doesn’t get irritated by your shave routine.

Use a men’s face wash on your skin and neck before you shave to cleanse away any dead skin cells, oil, or grime that may impair the razor from getting as close as possible to your skin. The more tugging your razor does against the skin, the worse your shave will be.

We also recommend using a men’s face scrub two to three times a week before you shave to further remove dead skin cells and loosen up the facial hairs you’re about to shave. Simply put, the less friction a blade has to deal with, the closer your shave will be.
