How to Prevent & Treat Back Acne (Bacne)

Back acne for men

Hidden from plain sight, on the shoulders and backs of men all over, lurks an all too familiar foe. Acne. Back acne, or bacne, is as common as its facial counterpart, but because it’s hidden out of sight, it is often left unnoticed, untreated, and most definitely unsightly. We are here to help show you how to get rid of back acne and how to prevent back acne from ever holding you back from going shirtless.

What Causes Back Acne?

The best tips on how to get rid of back acne start long before the water starts running out of your shower. Picking the best men's skin care products is your first defense against bacne breakouts. Most common shower products contain harmful chemicals that seep into the pores, irritate the skin, and kick start bacne breakouts quicker than products containing natural ingredients. Using men's soaps and men's body washes that contain all natural ingredients will help ward off irritation on the shoulders and back while also hydrating the skin in an area that needs it. While it may seem unnecessary, don’t stop at just soap. Even using generic shampoos and conditioners can irritate the skin of the back and neck if not properly rinsed or washed during a shower. Excess chemicals from your shampoos and conditioners can gather in the larger pores of the shoulders and back, assisting to irritation caused by generic soaps.

How to Treat Back Acne

Regular showers is your primary bacne treatment. While you have showered all your life, there is a good chance you are doing it wrong. Always start with your hair, then face, rinsing fully before you start on your body. This will allow you to properly wash away any left over shampoo and conditioner that could collect and cause irritation. Washing your back and shoulders is essentially an adventure in yoga, but figuring it out is a necessary evil. If your flexibility doesn’t allow, try to find a good scrub brush that can help bridge the gap. Just letting suds run down your back is not good enough, you need to properly scrub and exfoliate this area if you want to avoid and rid yourself of bacne breakouts. Using a men's face scrub on your shoulders and back is a good back acne treatment.

How to Prevent Back Acne

Practicing general good hygiene is also one of the best bacne cures and prevention methods. Avoid wearing sweat soaked shirts for longer than is absolutely necessary. While it is easy to avoid the shower when you are just at home, letting sweat linger longer than necessary will clog pores and cause breakouts. Also, try to always wear clean clothes as this can contribute to breakouts as well. In the same way, if you are prone to sleeping without a shirt on, regularly clean your sheets, especially if you sweat at night. If your skin is particularly sensitive, try different laundry detergents made for those with sensitive skin as this could make a huge difference.

These tips should help you treat and prevent back acne (bacne), while also making you more confident without your shirt.
